Yeah, sorry, they don't really tell me about that sort of thing. I usually don't know any sooner than you do. I just know that right now there are trade paperbacks coming out collecting all my Wolverine stuff. First one is already out. Second one comes out soon.

Greetings, Mr. Aaron. I am inquiring about a letter to the editor of the LA Times by your Cousin Gustav on today's date in 1980, called Still Gagging On The Bitterness of Vietnam. I am a Vietnam Vet, and had some brief contact with Gustav in the 80s when he supported our Agent Orange group, The Brotherhood of Vietnam Veterans, and connected us with some useful individuals to further our cause. Quite an interesting man, for sure. I was wondering why I can't find the above mentioned writing anywhere, even in the Times archive. I used to have it, and liked to post it this day. To me, it is the best piece of reality ever written concerning the debacle in 'Nam. Do you know where I can access this? Thank you, and although I know nothing of your art, it's really impressive. Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from you. my email is imbuzzdaly@yahoo.com.

I dont want to inundate your wall but we have been attempting to contact you in regards to garnering an on air interview all of which have been to no avail. Is there a better method of contacting you because we would really love to pick your brain in regards to your amazing work! The email is from Jehue..... Again I do apologize!

What are you guys at Marvel???? Crazy????

If you so badly want a female superhero, why dont you just create a NEW one????

Why must you rape Thor????

I have had it with this BS political correctness.

If you ever think I will go to the cinemas to watch a movie with a female Thor, you are dead wrong!!

Nor am i interested to read it in a comic book, or see a cartoon of it or whatever!

This is a true turn off!

And i am sure many people with me agree!!

many regards from the Netherlands

My God what happened to Thor in 10th realm #3? He is not even in Angela's league? That was horribly disappointing. It didn't have any resemblance to the Thor you, Hickman, and Remender have been writing.

Jason Aaron at: 2:09 PM said...

If you ask me, it'd sure be awful boring if every Thor story was nothing but Thor being badass and winning every battle. If that's all your interested in, if you're more into ranking characters in terms of power levels than you are in storytelling, then it seems to me you're always going to be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Morningstar at: 8:43 PM said...

There is a huge difference in "winning every battle", to being beaten like a child, not even looking like you can land a blow, and being dragged away like you aren't even worthy of Angela's time. She certainly didn't look that formidable in GOTG, or her own title. If this was all Thor is capable of, I think Gorr, would have wiped out all Gods, the Builders would have destroyed the Earth, and the Apocalypse Twins would have just cut him to pieces. And I certainly wasn't disappointed in your 1st story arc, or the last. Just because I believe Thor was handled awfully in this battle, doesn't mean I am "only interested in ranking characters" What kind of assumption is that? I had been singing praises about your writing of Thor until this point.

Jason Aaron at: 9:27 PM said...

Basically all you're saying is "How can this character possibly be stronger than that character?" And I'm saying, read the story. Or don't. It's up to you. But either way, these battles you're talking about never happen in a vacuum. They're a part of whatever story is being told.

Over the past few years we have seen Hulk lift the weight of a star and punch a hole in time, we have seen Hyperion survive the collapse of two universes and lift a planet and we have seen Thor slapped around by Angela and lose his arm. Yes the God Butcher arc was impressive and he stood toe to toe with Thanos but I feel Thor has been getting the short end of the stick in recent years. It would be nice to see the Prince of Asgard do something sensational and elevate him back to his position as one of Marvel's mightiest heroes.

Jason Aaron at: 10:48 AM said...

Again, if all you're interested in are power levels and feats of strength, I suggest you check out the Marvel handbooks. They're quite well done. Meanwhile, I'll be over here trying to tell a story.

I'm familiar with Thor and his history and enjoy your work on TGOT and Thor. Yes we read comics for stories, seeing the impossible become possible is part of the attraction for characters like Thor. It would be nice to see him do something truly extraordinary in light of the things Hulk and Hyperion have done recently.

Is the enchantment on Jarnbjorn only effective against Celestials? It was used to kill Gorr, was that due to the enchantment or because it was used as a blunt force weapon?

Unknown at: 9:52 AM said...

pietje bel and Morningstar's points were valid. Why do not have to tell a story at the expense of the integrity of a character? We see young Thor tortured for 400 years then kill Gorr once free but current Thor is tired after a short battle then humiliated by lowly Angela? You did this throughout Original Sin. Nick Fury doing his Batman act and beating up some of Marvel's most powerful characters was ridiculous, regardless of what armour or weapons he was using, Hulk humiliatingly slapped down by a minor league villain, what purpose did that serve? These are also our characters, we have an emotional investment. You flippantly suggest we don't have to read it. If we don't read your work you don't get paid! Show some respect for your readers and the history of these characters.

Jason Aaron at: 1:57 PM said...

I really don't see why you insist on trying to have some sort of argument here, when it's clear we have very different priorities when it comes to storytelling. I am not in any way interested in using every story I write simply to drive home the point again and again of this character or that character being the strongest one there is. That isn't storytelling. Even Michael Jordan missed a game-winning shot now and then. And sometimes that's the more interesting story. I still have a whole bunch of Thor stories left to tell. I expect some of them you'll like, some of them you won't. That doesn't make me disrespectful of the readers or the characters. It just means it's not to your liking. That's why I suggest again, not flippantly but seriously, read what makes you happy.

Jason Aaron at: 2:02 PM said...

>>>>>Is the enchantment on Jarnbjorn only effective against Celestials? It was used to kill Gorr, was that due to the enchantment or because it was used as a blunt force weapon?

Yeah, the enchantment that was mentioned in UNCANNY AVENGERS is only related to Celestials. Other that that, Jarnbjorn appears to be just a big, super strong battle axe.

Missing a basket isn't the same as being on the losing side against children playing on the streets, which is what some of the things you have written in recent months is akin to. This isn't about who is the strongest there is, it's about respecting a character and not taking shortcuts, regardless of how you try to justify it. When Hulk was defeated by Sun God in a previous issue Hickman established Banner was throttling back Hulk's anger in order to not lose control. Hulk loses but saves face. A bit of care and attention goes a long way. You don't take criticism well. Yes some of your work is excellent, Origin Sin however was panned. The final issue was rated 2.5 stars out of 5 by CBR, 3/5 by comicvine, 5.7 out of 10 by IGN. So your response to that is what? They're entitled to their opinion? Read something else? Or do you take criticism on board and learn from your mistakes? If you don't show readers respect, if you don't show the hard work other writers have put into establishing characters respect and your readers indeed read bail and start reading something else where does that leave you? You're in the business of selling comics. Don't crap where you eat.

Jason Aaron at: 1:05 AM said...

I'm certainly very touched by your concern for my livelihood, but by "don't take criticism well" you basically mean I don't take YOUR criticism well. And you're right, I don't. Goodbye.

Unknown at: 9:00 AM said...

Nor the views of others. Original Sin 8 critic rating 5.3/10

http://comicbookroundup.com/comic-books/reviews/marvel-comics/original-sin/8

You should know why Original Sin was panned but it doesn't matter what people think, just crap all over the legacy of a character as long as you tell a story, that's all that counts.

Just had a chance to read the new Thor #2, it was amazing! But I must say its driving me crazy not knowing who she is. Ive seen the huge lists of people say she is but I think theyre all wrong. Ive spent the past hour reading the first two issues and the past few runs of Thor, and since the only clues we have are she talks like a mortal to herself in her head and shes met that dick minotaur Dario Agger. So my guess for who Thor is.......Rosalind Solomon! Seems like a good fit and shes a pretty cool mortal that I would say is worthy

My name is Henry McComas and I wanted to shoot you an email after reading volume 6 of Scalped. I know I'm late to the party but WOW, these characters have me invested and wanting more. When I started reading the series I thought Red Crow was a bastard, now I see myself empathizing with him and at times even rooting for him. My two favorite arcs so far are Dino and his car. (I love that he ends up taking his buds out for Pancakes and how that leads to the discovery of a body. I'm not saying' any names for spoilers sake.) I really dug the one when Dash takes the 12 year-old boy under his wing...the latter story reminded me of the movie "Shane" a little bit.

I had a couple questions about your creative process if you don't mind...I apologize in advance if they come off as repetitive being that the book has been out for awhile and I'm sure someone has had similar inquiries.

I have been making short films for a decade now and I have decided to start my first feature script. I am very interested in the Ojibwa tribes in Northern Wisconsin and the political happenings going on around the area, primarily land and mine issues. When you started writing Scalped what kind of research did you do? I understand the sensitivity and conflicts that arise with a white creative telling stories about Native American culture. All of your characters feel honest and layered. Did you spend any time on the reservations? Do you have any personal experiences with the Lakota? Did you go on any ride alongs or converse with elders?

For research, I have been reading and watching everything I can. I have discovered great gems like the Rez, Dance Me Outside, Coyote Waits, the Dark Wind, Thunder Heart, Skins, and of course Scalped. During the research process is when I began to wonder what kind of field experience you may or may not have had? Also, what was the native community's reception to Scalped once it released? Did it even matter? Sometimes I find it hard to walk the line of credibility and creativity.

Thank you so much for your time and letting me pick your brain a bit.

Keep on writing! I can't wait to check out Southern Bastards.

Mr. Aaron,

Have you read New Avengers #27? Are you and Jonathan Hickman collaborating, or are you each going your own ways?

Jason Aaron at: 12:07 PM said...

Jonathan and I don't directly collaborate, no. But we do share notes through our editors, so we always know where the various stories are going.

Anonymous at: 4:51 PM said...

Ah, I see. I had expected Odinson would eventually arrive where New Avengers #27 puts him (trying not to spoil anything), I just didn't suspect it would be that soon.

Anonymous at: 11:54 PM said...

Hey Jason! I really love the new Thor. She kicks ass. I have really enjoyed the story and impatiently await the next issue!

thor at: 5:24 PM said...

The new Thor is terrible! Can't believe you were allowed to trash Thor's legacy. I pray for the day your removed from Thor and someone competent takes it over. Bring back Walt Simonson.

P.S. The original sin story lined sucked as well

Unknown at: 12:21 AM said...

I loved Star Wars! I just started reading comics again and so far its been awesome. I have been missing so much adventure and imagination in my life and I need it right now being terminal with cancer. I got my two youngest sons reading as well. Im so proud. Thank you so much Jason. Your a great man. I wish I had the rest of the series to read right this moment. Hehehe! God bless you.

Unknown at: 4:24 PM said...

Hello Jason I have a question about Odinson, can he react to object or beings coming at him at light speed?

Unknown at: 11:32 PM said...

Dear Jason,

As an actual pagan, I would like to personally commend you for your bold step forward in commandeering Thor as the figurehead of your progressive principles. How nice for you to be able to package and publicate such an old stalwart character as the ancient Thor in such a widespread manner and fundamentally change it simply because you can. I’m sure the few remaining Asaeric temples are green with envy.
I see you’re down to the bare bones reconstructionism, just taking whole-hog, free-reign, creative-types-don’t-give-a-fyuck you type of attitude. It’s refreshing to see such new ideas, like “borrowing” theocratic symbols of pagan faiths(though then again, I think the Catholics beat you to it back in the Dark Ages) and completely redesigning them to suit your preferences.
Hey why not up the ante? Why settle for such a miniscule religious figure to take as your own creative plaything? Hey, I got one, the next comic series can be about the second coming of Christ. It can go something like this, “The world’s amassed a ton new sins these days, and our new heroine Jesus Christinas the Christ knows it’s gonna take more than a mere three days of cross bearing to stand in for the sins of all Mankind. But can she do it alone? I don’t thinks so, our lady the Prophet Mohamad(recently freed from traditional views of gender, having rediscovered herself as the woman she is) shall be by her side as she struggles against the evils of the dreaded Patriarchy.”
But yeah, your newest incarnation of Thor is about as respectful to Nordic theology as a transgendered Jesus would be to Christians. It’s wonderful to see such a prominent company such as yours appropriating mythic figures for your own personal politics. Really, great fucking job, really swell of you to completely misrepresent a religious figure your company never really took the time to understand in the first place, very respectful to a culture that’s been stripped down to near non-existence so extensively it barely exists today. I’m sure in the spirit of equality you’ll be doing the same to figures from the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim faiths soon enough.

Or maybe you’re just a hypocritical cuntnugget. I think that may be it.

My Weeping Gods

Unknown at: 6:00 PM said...

Seriously, the level of political propaganda you pump into your work is disgraceful. I can't believe the arrogance in which you appropriate the very god of an ancient and downtrodden religion for your own ideology, regardless of your lack of respect for the source.

It's disgusting.

Unknown at: 7:00 PM said...

Are you doing any commissions at the Heroes Con in Charlotte NC? If so, do I need to email you etc OR ? I work for Ultimate Comics, we will have tables there. So it would be no rush for it since ill be working the Con all weekend.

Thank You

Hello Jason,

I would like to start off by saying you're one of the greatest writers of this generation and I always wish that if my writing skills were ever good enough I could write a comic with you. I'm not entirely sure you're going to see this, but if you do reply to me I'm going to cry haha. I had a question regarding the new Doctor Strange series you are writing currently: I was wondering in the book why Dr.Strange hasn't remarked on the fact he has no soul anymore due to the bargain made to gain more power in order to save the world with the Illuminati pre Secret Wars? Also, I would like to ask will we see what happened in the 8 months prior to this series starting since each book is showcasing what happens post Secret Wars and why does he look younger if I may ask? Thank you Jason and I hope you keep writing many great comic series that I'll always take interest in such as your amazing work on each Thor series you've done!
